Have you heard about the MyKey on
new Ford vehicles?
Ford is dedicated to helping new drivers and teens drive responsibly. The Ford
MyKey technology helps parents encourage their teenaged children to spend their
time behind the wheel as safely as possible. This revolutionary technology can
restrict teens from speeding, remind them to wear their seatbelt, and more, in
an effort to encourage safe driving habits.
At
Franklin's Spring Creek Ford, safety is one of our main priorities. Learn how the
MyKey works and how to program your key to keep your teenage driver safe.
How Does
the Ford MyKey Work?
With the Ford MyKey you can program your key to a restricted
driving mode setting to promote good driving habits like using your seatbelt,
limiting speeding, and decreasing audio volume. How Can I
Program the Ford MyKey?
You can program any key through your vehicle's message
center. When you insert your programmed key into the ignition, the system reads
its transponder chip and identifies the MyKey code. This will activate the
settings you've selected.
Follow these three steps for programming or reprogramming
your MyKey:
- Choose
one of the two keys your new vehicle came with to serve as the MyKey. The other will serve as
the administrator key.
- Insert
the MyKey into the key fob slot, then tap through the message center,
using the steering wheel controls, until you've reached the MyKey section.
- Follow
the instructions on the screen and choose the options you'd like. When the
MyKey is set up, simply turn the engine off and remove the key.

Features
The MyKey system on Ford has 4 primary features, and you
can customize them based on your unique concerns:- The Belt
Minder: This feature provides a six-second reminder chime every 30 seconds
to remind the people in the front seat to fasten their safety belts. It will
also mute the audio system until the seat belts are fastened.
- Top Speed
Settings: Using MyKey, you can program the vehicle to restrict driving at
top speeds. You can limit a vehicle's top speed at four different settings -
65, 70, 75 or 80 mph.
- Earlier Low
Fuel Warning: Perhaps your young driver has a habit for ignoring the gas
light until it's too late. The MyKey system provides an option to present a
warning at 75 miles to empty, rather than the standard warning at 50 miles to
empty.
- Screen
Radio Content: You can block all stations labeled as "explicit" by Sirius
Satellite Radio.
Additional safety precautions include preventing of the
driver from turning off the Ford Parking aid system, the Blind Spot Information
System and the cross-traffic alerts. It will also activate the Do Not Disturb
feature, so you can block calls and text messages while the car is in motion.
For concerned parents, the MyKey offers peace of mind when
young drivers are out on the road by themselves.
