 The New 2020 Ford Super Duty Powertrain
There are three engine options in 2020, the venerable 6.2L V8 base engine; a bolder, retuned 6.7L V8 Powerstroke Diesel with higher horsepower and torque numbers than the present 6.7L diesel engine; and an all-new 7.3L pushrod V8 for higher horsepower and low-end torque. This brand new 7.3L V8 is an engine Ford customers have been asking for. Â Â

Petrano, Ford Engineering Manager for the 7.3L V8 says, "It's new from the
ground up." He stated that the new engine was designed as the best combination
of fuel efficiency, environmental considerations and power. And, its power
profile will fit nicely between the 6.2L and the 6.7L Diesel. The 7.3L V8 will
be available in all Super Duty trim levels down to the F-250.

A new
10-speed TorqShift with SelectShift automatic transmission is also available
for the new higher horsepower and torque engines. It's not the same 10-speed
that is presently available in the F-150. All new material both inside and out
make it more durable and able to shoulder the bigger workloads.

to Greg Stout, 10-Speed Transmission Manager for Ford, "This new Super Duty,
TorqShift transmission is really an all-new, clean sheet design. Ford designed
it specifically to complement the new [higher horsepower, higher torque]
powertrains for the 2020 Super Duty."

Even
though the new Super Duty's 10-speed transmission is bigger than the F-150's,
it only weighs 3.5 pounds more, due to extensive use of new
weight-saving materials. Now that's smart engineering.
