Interior and Tech Features
Both vehicles have similar exteriors with sleek styling and modern SUV features as much of that comparison will depend on preference of the buyer. The interiors, however, have several key distinctions between the two rival vehicles.ÂÂ
The Honda Pilot offers eight seats in its cabin, which can be
handy when an extra seat is needed, but don't be fooled by numbers. The rear seats
are packed in tight, leaving just enough room for three children, and even that
isn't a comfortable ride. The Expedition offers seven seats, with the rear
seats only hosting two roomier seats. Both the Pilot and the Expedition offer
solid cargo space, but the Expedition offers four extra cubic feet of cargo
space with the rear seat up, and once folded down, offers 20 more cubic feet of
space than the packed-in Pilot.Â
Both models offer great infotainment systems that include
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, but the HondaLink system tends to
lag more than the Expedition's SYNC 3, making it difficult to fulfill your
audio desires when on the road. Both models offer smartphone connectivity,
voice control, premium audio, navigation, and optional power sunroof and
heated/cooled leather seats.
When it comes to a powerful and efficient engine, the Ford
Expedition offers more options and more power. The Honda Pilot offers a single
3.5L V6 engine that puts out 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The Expedition
offers three engine options: a 3.5L V6 with 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque, a
2.3L turbocharged I4 with 280 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.5L twin turbo
V6 with an incredible 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Power and Performance
Â
Both models offer decent
fuel economy ranging from 16-19 mpg/city, depending on which engine you choose.
In terms of towing capacity on all-wheel drive, the Expedition can crank out an
incredible 9,000 lbs. versus the Honda's 5,000 lb. max. That remarkable disparity
can mean the difference between taking your jet skis on vacation and leaving
them at home.
